This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide an outstanding patient experience. Valley was the first hospital in the tri-state area to be awarded this distinction.

The Valley Hospital plans to modernize in move to Paramus

After 65 years as a cornerstone of the Ridgewood community, The Valley Hospital is relocating its main campus to a 20-acre parcel in the heart of Paramus, a move that will permit the hospital to finally modernize, while transforming an aging retail tract into a health care hub for North Jersey patients.

The 910,000-square-foot hospital to be constructed off Route 17 will include all single-patient rooms and end a decade-long fight to expand in Ridgewood, an issue that divided the community, triggered lawsuits and dominated local elections for years.

The Valley Health System will build the $735 million hospital on Winters Avenue near the Fashion Center and Paramus Park mall, 2.5 miles from its current campus. The Ridgewood facility, which opened in 1951 with just over 100 beds, will remain open and serve as an urgent care center, lab and endoscopy center, and provide other outpatient services.

Architects plan to design and finalize plans by 2019. Construction is estimated to take 3½ years, about one-third of the estimated time it would have take to complete the renewal project in Ridgewood.

The hospital could open as early as  in 2023.
