Nuss Procedure for Correction of Pectus Excavatum About

Pectus Excavatum is the most common chest wall deformity occurring in one out of every 350 children born each day. This congenital deformity is characterized by a concave, “bowl shaped” chest.

The sunken chest can compress and shift the heart causing symptoms of shortness of breath, lack of stamina, and pain.

Forty percent of patients are sunken at birth; all others develop the deformity as they grow. Symptoms can worsen as the child grows. An optimal time for repair is between 13-14 years of age. Our practice is recognized as a national resource for treating both children and adults with this condition.
